Food guilt often shows up when dancers label foods as “perfect,” “clean,” or “bad.” That guilt is not a sign of a lack of discipline. It is often a signal that rigid food rules or unrealistic standards are shaping the relationship with food. Dancers can begin reducing food guilt by practicing these steps:

Identify and validate the feeling instead of ignoring it

Challenge and gradually dismantle rigid food rules

Practice mindful eating to reconnect with satisfaction and hunger cues

Use supportive food and body affirmations

Stay curious about thoughts and behaviors rather than being judgmental
